Mag 9 Review by Seth Wheeling, X-terra champion. The MAG 9 will be introduced at the upcoming Outdoor Retailer Trade Show.
"The new Crescent Moon Mag shoes were taken to the mecca of snow in Colorado for their official paces. We are talking Steamboat, CO. Oh, yea…… Not only the normal weekend in December, but one in which 30” of powder fell in 48 hours. First impact was on a mountain pass where ski backwoods track was started and then as the run/hike went on turned to uncut trail. Upon first strap down, the Mags feel incredibly light even with heavy trainer running shoes on. The Crescent Moon strap system is both easy to use with thick gloves on, and reliable as they get dipped in powder of all types. The width works very well with ski cut tracks and feel very open and runable on packed trail. The torsion system in the toebox makes the Mags very responsive on turns and keeps the whole platform stable. I was really impressed with the cutting ability of these shoes. The lower angle front provided pack for the massive toe spikes to get firm and reliable grip every step. On the downhills, the Mags were very stable in a back lean and the heal spikes make for a control that is unbeatable. Overall, the new Mags are a work of genius from the minds in Boulder recognizing the developing platform of shoe packers to racers."
